Mean flow of turbulent boundary layers over porous substrates

چکیده
Wind tunnel measurements over commercially available foams have been performed to characterize the boundary-layer flow realistic permeable rough surfaces. The mean indicates that these surfaces can be considered similar rough-walls in log region. near-wall region appears under combined influence of roughness and permeability. An analysis framework based on data is presented where future studies examine

Turbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
متن کاملUniversal dependences between turbulent and mean flow parameters in stably and neutrally stratified Planetary Boundary Layers
We consider the resistance law for the planetary boundary layer (PBL) from the point of view of the similarity theory. In other words, we select the set of the PBL governing parameters and search for an optimal way to express through these parameters the geostrophic drag coefficient Cg=u∗/Ug and the cross isobaric angle α(where u∗ is the friction velocity and Ug is the geostrophic wind speed). ...

متن کاملA Novel Similarity Solution of Turbulent Boundary Layer Flow over a Flat Plate
In this paper, the similarity solution of turbulent boundary layer flow on the flat plate with zero pressure gradients is presented. By employing similarity variables the governing partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary ones with inconsistent coefficients and solved numerically with the use of Runge–Kutta and shooting methods in conjunction with trial and error procedure. Fo...
متن کاملControl of turbulent boundary layers
The objective of this paper is to give an overview of recent progress on boundary layer control made by the author’s research group at University of California, Los Angeles. A primary theme is to highlight the importance of a certain linear mechanism and its contribution to skin-friction drag in turbulent boundary layers—and the implication that significant drag reduction can be achieved by alt...
